What It’s Like Attending the National Nurses in Business Association’s Annual Conference

If you’ve ever wondered what happens when a bunch of innovative nurses and nurse entrepreneurs get together, let me tell you — it’s pure magic.

And I’m not particularly woo-woo or typically that cheesy either, but being in the same room with so many nurses who are daring to redefine what it means to be a nurse is something I’ll never get tired of.

I recently had the privilege of attending the National Nurses in Business Association’s annual conference, and let me just say that it was an eye-opening experience PACKED with valuable insights, inspiring stories, practical advice, aaand a whole lot of amazing nurses doing amazing things with their careers.

The Power of Attending Conferences

Networking Opportunities and Making Connections That Matter

First things first — networking.

Networking isn’t just about exchanging business cards or social media handles.

Networking should be more about making connections and cultivating meaningful relationships that can propel your career forward.

And at conferences, you’re not just attending sessions or learning about the opportunities brought in by the exhibitors. You get to mingle with some of your industry’s most influential thought leaders and trailblazers.

The connections you make here are invaluable.

You’re in a room full of colleagues, potential collaborators, mentors, and friends who are all on the same journey of innovation, growth, and entrepreneurship.

Now, I’m fairly introverted, so being at this conference just to network and make connections was extremely exhausting in every way. Still, I did have the privilege of talking with some amazing fellow nurses and speakers, each with their own unique perspectives, experiences, and business ideas.

It was so inspiring to witness so many nurses sharing their stories, bringing life to new ideas, and allowing an open mind for exciting new opportunities.

Getting Your Concentrated Dose of Knowledge

The speakers at the national nurses in business conference were unbelievably inspirational.

Each one brought a unique perspective and a wealth of knowledge. From personal anecdotes to professional insights, their stories and advice were both motivational and practical.

I honestly walked away with a renewed sense of purpose and a notebook FULL of inspiring quotes I needed to hear in the moment.

Now, let’s talk about the meat of this nurse entrepreneur conference — the sessions themselves.

Here’s a rundown of the topics that absolutely blew me away:

The Business of Storytelling by Denetra Hampton

We delved into the power of crafting compelling narratives that captivate audiences and drive action. Your story and your purpose will elevate your business, and you can use your story to write a compelling website that tells your story and creates the beginning of the partnership between you and your audience.

The key takeaway? Effective storytelling is about building a bridge between you and your audience (that’s how I see brand messaging and copywriting by the way). When you master this, you transform your marketing and your business communications into powerful tools for connection, engagement, and persuasion.

Tapping Into Your Entrepreneurial Spirit by Pamela Spivey

This session was all about unleashing your inner entrepreneur. We explored how to nurture that drive and turn ideas into action with confidence and competence. It was an empowering reminder that entrepreneurship isn’t reserved for a select few — it’s about embracing a mindset that’s open to innovation, collaboration, and a little risk-taking.

Limitless: Beyond the Bedside by Heather Wilson

Who says your nursing career has to be confined to traditional roles? This session opened EVERYONE’S eyes to the countless possibilities beyond the bedside. From consulting to coaching, the world is full of opportunities for nurses to expand their horizons and make a broader impact. Achieving is simply a learning process, after all, and more importantly, building a business runs parallel to healing ourselves.

Transforming Your Money Mindset by Karen Retardo

Talking about money can be daunting, and depending on your upbringing, you have a particular money mindset that governs your decision-making. But this session transformed that conversation into one of empowerment. We learned strategies to shift our financial thinking and build a mindset that supports our business goals. It’s about seeing money as a tool for growth rather than a barrier.

Presenting With Polish and Passion by Donna Cardillo

In this session, we learned the art of delivering impactful keynote speeches with both refinement and enthusiasm. The focus was on crafting compelling narratives that resonate with audiences while maintaining a polished and professional presentation style. Key takeaways included techniques for engaging your audience, structuring your speech for maximum impact, and infusing your personal passion into your delivery to leave a lasting impression.

How To Become a Profitable Nurse Writer by Janelle Barowski

This session was all about transforming your nursing expertise into a profitable freelance writing business. We explored strategies for identifying lucrative writing opportunities within the healthcare sector, building a strong personal brand as a nurse writer, and leveraging your unique background to create valuable content. Janelle’s session was chock full of insights and advice on setting up a writing business, finding clients, and maximizing earnings to succeed as a nurse writer.

Leveraging Digital Content and Creating Valuable Courses by Louise Jakubik

Creating and leveraging content is key to every business, especially when you have a completely digital business. We covered how to use digital platforms effectively, leveraging content to truly connect with your audience, and developing courses that offer real value. It’s all about sharing your expertise in a way that resonates with your audience, helps them solve a problem, and offers a solution in a format that’s monetizable.

From Risk to Reality: Navigating the Road to Entrepreneurship by Renee Thompson

Being a nurse is usually a pretty safe bet when you’re risk-averse, but entrepreneurship requires you to take a risk on your business idea to bring it to reality. We explored how to manage and mitigate risks in business, turning potential setbacks into opportunities for growth. It’s a crucial skill for any entrepreneur, and the insights gained here were both practical and inspiring!

The Value of Investing in Professional Development

If you’re passionate about growing your career and expanding your business, investing in professional development is a no-brainer.

Attending the National Nurses in Business Association’s conference underscored a fundamental truth: investing in professional development is not just a luxury but a necessity for anyone serious about advancing their career.

Conferences offer a concentrated dose of this knowledge, with access to experts and thought leaders who share cutting-edge insights and practical advice. But the benefits extend WAY beyond the sessions themselves. It’s about the opportunity to step out of your daily routine, gain fresh perspectives, and rejuvenate your passion for your work!

And more importantly, it’s about the connections you make and the knowledge you acquire — because those are both your long-term assets. They open doors to new opportunities, enhance your capabilities, and elevate your professional network. Investing in yourself pays dividends not just in your immediate career goals but in your overall growth, mindset, and success.

The national nurses in business conference reminded me that professional development is an ongoing journey. Each investment in learning, whether through conferences, courses, or workshops, is a step toward greater expertise, innovation, and fulfillment in your career.

Turning Knowledge Into Action

So, what’s next? How do you take all the amazing information you learn at a nurse entrepreneur conference like the National Nurses in Business Association and put it into practice?

It’s one thing to hear inspiring ideas and innovative strategies, but it’s quite another to translate them into tangible steps that can propel your career and business forward!

The real magic happens when you take the insights gained from these sessions and apply them to your unique expertise and passions.

Start small and build from there! You might feel that flood of overwhelm at the idea of so many possibilities (the HARDEST part, IMHO), but focus on integrating just one idea or change at a time, and make changes to best suit you and your goals as you move along your journey.

So Was the Nurse Entrepreneur Conference Worth It?

I can honestly say, YES — the National Nurses in Business Association’s annual conference was an incredible experience that left me feeling energized, empowered, and inspired.

If you have the chance to attend a similar conference or event, SEIZE IT. The knowledge and connections you gain will be transformative, not just for your career but for your personal growth as well. I’d say that’s an investment in your future worth making.
